Blogger Assignment: Day One
Blogging Assignment
This marking period, we covered different types and forms of Journalism. So far you've written a newsletter and compared traditional newspapers to social media posts. Another form of (semi) modern journalism is Blogging. By definition a blog is
"a regular feature appearing as part of an online publication that typically relates to a particular topic and consists of articles and personal commentary by one or more authors"
Your "Do Now" asked you to look up some prominent blogger and popular "blogs" even though the term is kind of a catch all for anything that is posted online these days. Once you do that, click the link in Classroom to get to THIS blog and start to create your own. Look through the layouts, themes and settings and create an address and paste the link in the assignment.
Basically, what you're going to be asked to do is set up a page and write each morning about whatever you want - whatever you feel strongly about and whatever moves you that day (within some parameters as far as topics go).
Grading
You will be graded on three criteria: Productivity, writing and visuals/engagement
Consistent Posting
Each student should write and publish one blog post each day of the week on a designated topic (e.g., current events, personal experiences, book reviews, etc.).
Posts should be timely, engaging with the topic of the day events or relevant subjects.
Your deadline will be the end of your period - aka, the time the blog is posted will determine if you made the deadline, so be productive *in* class.
Content
Posts should capture the reader's attention with engaging introductions, clear main points, and strong conclusions.
Posts should express unique voices and perspectives while exploring a variety of topics. That means YOUR opinion and viewpoint. ChatGPT will get you a zero.
Each post should have a clear structure: an introduction, body paragraphs with relevant details, and a conclusion.
Posts should be well-written with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. They should be free from any inappropriate language.
Interactive Elements
Posts should incorporate at least one image, video, or relevant visual to enhance the blog's message.
Include reliable sources, statistics, quotes, or personal anecdotes to support opinions or arguments.
Encourage the use of comments sections or questions at the end of posts to foster interaction with readers.
March 10th - Introduction
Today, you're going to play around with the site a little bit.
Make sure you:
1. Create a URL
2. Copy and paste the URL into the private comments in Google Classroom
3. Explore the themes and setting on blogger.com
Once that is all done, you will create a new post. For this post, take a few minutes and write a mini-bio/introductory paragraph about yourself. Include current information - not "I live in Vineland and have two brothers" but more likes, interests. Include what you are currently listening to, watching, sports you are participating in now, etc.
Make it about your personality as opposed to life facts.
Be sure to publish it before the end of the period.
